Ruby was born and raised in the heat of Phoenix, Arizona by a single mother. Ruby loved her mother but wasn't content with the life they lived since they never had much money.  When she was young, she was identified as being a genius and placed in accelerated learning programs. She worked hard throughout high school, determined to earn enough money to go to college and make it beyond her mother's humble beginnings as the daughter of Italian immigrants with no college education. Due to her hard work and intelligence, Ruby was able to study undergrad at Arizona State University and got her masters in computer science at Stanford.

After finishing at Stanford, Ruby was offered a job at a Seattle based company, and she opted to move to Index because she preferred the smaller town feel. She eventually moved on to start working as a hacker alongside her job at said computer company. She eventually branched out and started offering her services to private parties with fewer ethical standards than she had originally held. Hacking the laptop led to her uncovering the existence of supernaturals in Index.

Ruby has become almost obsessed with learning more about the occult. She can often be found on her computer or library researching, and also will occasionally visit locations like Poison in order to learn more about supernaturals.
